It's in your owner's manual. I change mine every 15K or so, which is more frequent than the manual requires.

running low. hmmm never heard it running low so soon. i noticed that it will vary alot depending on how long you let it sit. that stick is very inaccurate. after i changed my oil it was saying i was high then after a few checks later it was saying it was low and now it says i'm perfect.

if you are going to fill it up just change out the oil completely. just remember to get a long funnel when you fill the tranny.

Make sure you have driven long enough to get the oil hot, then you have to be very very very close to level to check it, and even then it's not perfectly accurate.

In the case of Subaru, yes. Warm, but engine off.

I have checked my tranny fluid both cold and hot. It reads a little higher hot, but not much. When you check it hot, be very careful not to burn your hand on the heat shield for the turbo, you know, the one that has an icon on it of a hand with an X through it.
