Tire slip launch
I heard from a friend that works at a tuner shop that the correct way, or atleast the safest/fastest way to launch my wrx is to rev it up to around 4k RPM, and then slip it about 5 or 6 feet, atleast enough to get it rolling good, and then quickly slip it out, and if you do it right, the tires spin, and you take off under boost. The concept is that you are burning up your tires, and they absorb the shock and wear instead of the clutch or rest of the driveline. I asked this same question on wrxforum.com, but was not satisfied with what they had to say. I trust you guys a little more. It seems like back when I was looking at buying a wrx back when they came out, this technique was standard, but I haven't seen anything about it as of yet.
that sounds pretty close but dont be fooled, launching hard still is awful for your clutch and tranny. the way your talking the clutch will be more your isssue than the tranny but thats the way you would want it anyway. i wonder if anyone has used one of those RPS Carbon-Carbon Clutches thats the high powered RWD cars use? i hear the more you slip them the better they like it and ive heard stories of 500+hp cars putting alot of miles on them with almost no wear.

I don't think that wheel spin is such a good idea. Wheel spin means that you maxed out the stress on the tranny and is putting the extra stress to the tires. You should launch in a way so that your clutch get most of the stress.

A drag launch, if done properly, is hard on your clutch and quite possibly your tires and gears. If done improperly, it will quickly break gears.
