5000 RPM Launch, Is it bad to do a few times?
Is it bad to launch down the track a at 5000 RPM start from the line. I did it a couple of times and was wondering if it was ok. I did get a 9.789 in hte 1/8 while doing it though. Its bane stock too.

. i was at the track a couple of days ago. I'm pretty bad... but anyhoo. i launch @ 4000RPM... totally fine. Only problem comes from shifting into 2nd gear. I'm like retarded or something. Lot of "thumping"..
hmm... i have a practically bone stock rex... i did a 9.4 1/8 mile with the 4K launches. ran 14.9 1/4 mile. It's fine. just don't do it everyday. only an 1/8 mile track?
oh yeh.. are you slipping the clutch? or dropping it? i slip mine kind of quickly... it's safer on the drivetrain...
-dropping @ 5K should be ok to do a couple of times. I've seen a guy drop @ 7K in his STi and it was totally fine. ---well, *cough* sti *cough*. hehe.
btw... how are you shifting? power shifts?

It will be better if you launch at 5500. J/K Don't dump the clutch, someone decided to test out the tranny once and found that you can only do 21 high-revving dumps untill first gear explodes.

You guys are the reason that I buy new cars instead of used ones. Dumping the clutch at 5,000 rpm is not a good idea, hell, even 4,000 isn't great, especially with the known transmission problems. AWD cars arent meant to do burnouts or tearing *** off the line from a dead stop.

hehe. well, then AWD doesn't exactly have an advantage then does it? they are Great drag cars. They are the best off the line... i got mine new. i use its attributes to the fullest potential... lol... j/k. i've never launched hard or attempted a burnout. Dounuts are ok though

I haven't heard this much whining since nursery school. First off, the stock clutch hydraulic line has a buffer in it so that if you dump the clutch from high rpm, it'll just gradually engage, therefore there's no real difference between dumping it and slipping it unless you've removed the buffer (which you should do with an aftermarket clutch, BTW). Second, most AWD cars that suffer from broken driveline parts are the result of other factors such as wheel hop, less-than-smooth engagement of 2nd gear,... the actual launch rpm has alot less to do with it than you think.

now that we know that SOA is winning law suits regarding failed tranny's im thinking before you start dropping clutch you might want to price out a new tranny....and axles y ur at it.... ;^)
