It was probably the car's clutch getting tired of you and your friends' a$$es weighing it down and heating it up too much. You should let it cool for a few minutes after every hard launch.

I had to let mine cool down a few times, but never noticed much more than very light grinding when I tried to put it in gear.

Watch out with the high rev starts and aggressive driving, I did a few of those (the guy who owned my car before me did more) and when my tranny broke it was called abuse and denied under the "abuse" clause in the warranty.
