Leak around Rear of Transmission-02 WRX 5spd Help Diagnose Pics!

Thanks ahead of the time for any help offered.

These are photos from the underside of my 02 WRX wagon.

It has a fluid leak towards the rear of the tranny, that has seeped down around the crossmember. It hasn't left any fluid on the driveway that I've noticed, it wasn't till i was under the car least week that I caught it.

My initial thoughts were that it was the output seal around the drive shaft, but upon closer inspection that area appears pretty clean...

What are people's thoughts?

If it were the output seal, I assume fluid would be around the base of the DS and that shroud piece shown below.

Shift linkage input shaft seal. You can see it in the last picture.

Any insight on the difficulty or replacing that, or the urgency to do so?

EDIT: Quick googling and i'm assuming i've got to drop the trans housing... >

Its very common that the rear extension housing leaks. More then likely its that and not the input shaft seal. The extension housing seal is a paper gasket and is a common leak since it starts to deteriorate after high mileage.

Thanks XhengemanX

I just got a quote from the dealer for about 650 to replace... Think i'm just gunna transfer that 650 to my 6spd swap fund and let it roll.

lol yea. Mine is also leaking but i just make sure my gear oil is at full. I drips about 1-2 drops a day if that. If you do decide to fix it, remove your mid pipe, remove your driveshaft, remove about 8 bolts holding the extension housing in place and replace the gasket. its bout 4 hours labor if i remember correctly and whatever the cost for new gaskets are.
