I Blew 1st Gear, I think??

well it sounds like nuts and bolts rattling as I accelerate, but the minute I shift into second it stops. I race natioanlly in SCCA so should I just go ahead and spend the extra money on some beefy gears, or I can buy a new tranny from a friend that has 6K on it for a thousand bucks- opinions please

does it kinda sound like valve ticking when theres low oil? mine does that too in first gear. well im takin mine into the dealers next week... my car is falling apart... sigh
