Help, I think I blew my tranny...

Hey everyone I think I blew my tranny yesterday. My car won't go into first gear no matter how I try or how hard I push. And it is a pain in the butt to get it into 2nd, all of the other gears are fine. I don't really know anything about my WRX and could use some help. It shifts inbetween gears fine, If I stop and put in in neutral I can't get it back into 2nd all of the time and most of the time I can't get it back into any gear. Then when I mess with it and get it back into gear as long as I don't stop with the car in neutral it gets going fine aside from first is dead. The car only has 6000 miles on it. PLEASE HELP ME!

Did something specific happen to the tranmission to cause this failure?

Why wouldn't this be under warranty still?

not implying that it was his fault...just something that subaru can and might use...

driver error

there, i said it.

goodluck with getting the problem diagnosed. it would also help if perusers of this thread know what happened before your tranny started doing this.

I believe in california, its the burden of the DEALER to prove misuse. Remind the service writer of that if you have to.

mmboost...please ellaborate. I am set for court on Dec 6th to fight subaru. how would they prove misuse if the abuse never happened? they told me I abused my car and denied warranty but I didnt, so how can they prove to me or a judge that I abused the car?

yes bent shift fork...but I wasnt shifting when it happened. after the initial "boom" I proceeded to run it through the gears hoping nothing serious was wrong. the shifter got Jammed in 3rd gear, then it came loose. after that I let it sit. beats the hell out of me how it got stuck between 1st and 2nd. could the shift fork get bent by running it through the gears?

check it out 03subawrx, you dont have to prove anything. The burdon of proof is on them and if the dealer is giving you a hard time write to a represenative of subaru and complain. Subaru stands behind there products and should help you. Hope this helps!

subaru does not stand behind their products. sending a letter to them does no good. legal action is the only way to get their attention. even legal action is difficult to do since SOA wouldnt give me their agent for process info in California. the dealership told me that they would have to contact the factory rep and then he would give them the info. Here's what it comes down to:

1. A lot of transmissions are breaking (some because of abuse, some because of bad luck or faulty parts)

2. SOA can deny warranty work just like any other car manufacturer, so they will do so whenever possible.

3. very few people fight SOA on the warranty issue, so they will continue to deny work based on their opinion.

4. redesigning a new transmission for the wrx would take millions of dollars and many years so for now, they will continue to use the 12+ year old design despite the huge HP increase since the early subies.

The funny thing is that Subaru already has better transmissions... even lowly 5 speeds. Why they won't put them into a car with 227 hp I don't know. I mean, weren't these better transmissions going into higher power model WRXs in Japan when the higher power models were around 227?

jason

p.s. [edit] my transmissions sucks, although it hasn't failed...yet. I'm never buying another Subaru though.
