HELP! Drivetrain gurus, need diagnosis
2.2L 2000 Impreza OBS
The car seems to have something binding when taking tight turns, left or right. Only happens when car is plenty warm, like after my hour long commute to work. It seems, to me the driver, to be coming from the front (there is a noise and a feel, almost as if im driving over bumps, but slows the car like a bind). A friend standing outside can't really tell if it's from the front/middle/rear. But more likely front/middle.
Then, I got the car, warmed up well, on jackstands. I put it into first and let it 'drive' itself, didn't stall out even with no gas, since very little drag i guess. The front left hub would rotate once, make a click then pause, sit for a second, then repeat. The right front would go pretty smoothly. The rears were in sync and were very smooth. (This was apparent no matter what steering angle was.)
This leads me to believe it's the front differential. I saw no leakage from the cv boots up front, and couldn't feel anything weird when feeling all around them.
Is there any way to know exactly? And has anyone replace a front differential and knows what's involved? I would appreciate it alot thanks.
