half clutch - fast smooth upshift
Sometimes when I'm shifting I don't clutch all the way in. I clutch in about halfway to the friction point, and it appears the RPMs drop rather slow as opposed to a full clutch in so I can shift into the proper gear while the engine rpms decrease to approximately the right range. It is usually real smooth and much quicker than a full clutch press-in first. Is this bad for the car? Do I wear down my clutch quicker by doing this? Does anyone do this? Oh yeah, in the wrx I heard once that you can take it out of gear into neutral without clutching in, because of the synchros. How does that work and is there any real benefit to it?

doesnt that wear the syncro's much faster? ive seen
people power shift on the wrx (best motoring video)
but those cars only do a few round before going into
the shop for maintenance.
for you daily commuter you'd probably want to
think twice about doing it too many times.

subarus RULES in every way....exept for our transmissions(minus sti 6speed). I have heard from everyone I know who drives a suby that they have replaced their clutch multiple times etc etc...
I bought my 98 rs with 28k on it(brand new clutch)....within 4 thousand miles I had blown the clutch completly. replaced with ACT pro street clutch, and jun lightwieght flywheel. My car is now simply incredible to drive. The absolute control over the car is amazing. Never have I felt such control while driving a car. I have to use the clutch PERFECTLY withing a minor touch or the car does not shift right at all. If i dont pull the shifter out the gear and then slam it into another gear with exactly the right motion....the gears grind. Personaly I love my new feel to the car....but im going to have to replace my tranny soon if i keep launching and slamming gears like i do =\ my sychros are already startin to grind if i shift to fast.....
