allways upshift
I thought some of you guys might be interested in taking a look at this lab i did for my physics class. I wrote it all out so that it should only take common knowledge/minor physics skills to understand. basically what i did was calculate the efficiency of my engine per say, so like how much of the potential energy from the gasoline actually turns in to like kenetic energy. I did trials at 50mph in 3rd and 4th gear, using my accessport for the data logging. i only uploaded the calculations pages. if for what ever reason you are interested in seeing the error analysis or w,e let me know ill send it to you.
here are the results in case you dont care to read through the calculations
3rd gear efficiency: 16.4524%
4th gear efficiency: 24.77%

At a given speed Lower Revs = Less gas burning...
(i.e. what his project proved)
Cool project...
If you think Up-shifting is fun, you should try Down-shifting

Lugging the engine in the lower rpms around in a high gear is not good for the engine...
I think if you really want to save gas just be aware on how fast you accelerate from light to light.
Cool project though my math skills are about equivalent to a 3rd grader.

low RPMs within reason... I'm not talking about rolling around town in 5th going 10mph... I'm not that retarded.

at a given speed... if you go 50 mph in 4th the revs will be higher than if you are going 50 mph in 5th... with the lower RPMs in 5th... less gas is consumed.
is this flat land or down hill
i want to see up hill
boost vs RPMs
i did engish in college so i have no clue

its in the lab... i used .73 Kg/L for the density of the fuel. i think you might be asking about the latent heat, in that case it was 4.6 x 10^7 J/Kg
as for BSFC, there is no BSFC function on the accessport. i havent really used the horsepower function on the accessport, nor have i dyno tested my car, so i have no way of knowing what my HP is at the 2 rpms that i tested in, but interesting idea
