constant tapping in tranny??? What'd i do?
I parked somewhere I shouldnt have last week, and my car was towed, on a flatbed. $280 later I pulled out of the tow yard as hard as I could. About a mile down the road I started hearing a tapping sound coming from my car. It follows the speed of my car, the slower I go the slower it goes, and motor speed does not affect it, neither does if it is in gear, or neutral, with the clutch in or out. I can only hear it off throttle, but it is farely loud, and it sounds like a baseball card in bicycle spokes. I spent a few hours under my car with it up on jackstands, and I cant find anything external, anywhere??? I had a friend spinning the tires as quickly as possible and I could hear a tiny tapping under the car and it sounds like the tranny, but its hard to tell. Anyone have any thoughts???

wrx tranny issues
WRX trannies cannot handle WRX engines. My friend has a 2003 WRX and has destroyed the tranny twice. When I was last in a local transmission shop I saw two WRX in there with tranny problems. Your best bet is to not lean (drive rough) on the WRXs transmission on dry roads. Rally cars are designed to have the wheels slip. All wheel drive has too much grip, when you jam second gear if traction does not break something else will. Something has to give. I want to know if you can bolt an Sti transmission onto a WRX motor?
a wrx tranny can easily handle wrx power....however theres barely stock transmission that can handle repeated high shock loads from a bad shifting driver, if you shift the right way it will last.....i dont think this ticking has anything to do with the tranny being bad, im almost SURE it was the idot who put it on the tow truck wrong..
damn people towing cars....did you leave it in gear when you parked? my mom had her nissan sentra towed while it was in gear once and the wheels dragged all the way up the flatbed, there was obviously alot of stress on the tranny from the way the wheels bounced, then just shortly after she got it back it was making a ticking noise too, but when i drove it to a friends house the tranny **** the bed, it wouldnt put any power to the ground, what happened was a small pin that held a gear or somthing in place fell out and just needed to be put back in right, mabey somthing like that is about to happen to your tranny?? just hope this helps,
