How stressful is it for the engine/tranny to be driven 4k-6k constant? 2nd/3rd gear

I'm certainly not a car expert, I guess I am just thinking how long I could drive a wrx at 4k-6krpm, in 2nd and third gear (spirited mountain driving or even on a track) before I should stop and let it rest up a little bit. And really how much more wear and tear that causes to the car?

And what if there was vf34 turbo/supporting mods upgrade(as a scenario I am considering)

I drive it like that all day everyday with 9x,xxx miles on my motor/chasis while still on oem stock clutch since the day I purchased the car. I think you should be fine as long as proper shifting/no abuse is done.

I had the vf34 setup since 40k mark. I'm sure ull be fine

yeah, you will be fine, just make sure your oil, water, and fuel are all at proper levels, any of them low your looking at serious engine failure..

and YES LOW FUEL WILL DESTROY YOUR MOTOR, especially while taking hard corners, you will get fuel starvation causing you to run lean in your car =)

As long as the car is warmed up and has plenty of oil, you will be ok.

If you do it when the engine is cold or is low on oil, you would have an increased chance of problems.

i never knew that! i thought as long as you have gas in the tank its the same thing as low or full. i always run on low gas because the weight reduction, so saves more gas =] but i guess i should fill up more often.

same here...

+ i also like to run down the the bottom of the tank befor i fill up to make sure the tank stays clean and doesnt get to much build up at the bottom of it....

damn this sucks

I went out for a session at Subydude's recent track day with well over a 1/4 tank left. Which I thought was plenty for a run (and would save weight right?). About 10 minutes into the session in a tight 2nd gear turn while under WOT, gas sloshed in tank, and I hit empty. That did not sound nor feel good. And gauge still showed just shy of a 1/4 tank left.

I was told the STi's have less chance of this due to how their tanks are constructed but my WRX gas tank didn't handle it very well. Who knows... this may very well have contributed to why I have to buy a new 2.5 block on Tuesday. :/

ideally, one should run around 3/4's a tank on a STOCK subaru,

otherwise a fuel cell with a bladder or surge tank would be ideal =)

Im not to sure about the design of the sti tank, i would assume its the same as the wrx...

not only on turns, but during hot days, the gas can turn to vapor and cause your car to run lean. that's what i heard.
