impreza clutch pics

well here are pics of my clutch. i still havent talked to anyone that has ever ripped the center out like this. the manager at all about transmissions in bremerton wa was not very under standing at all. he told me that the clutch had been abused. i know it got alittle bit of love from me but no rpm dumps and i didnt drag it either. it just a 1.8 awd with suspension.

Wow. Nope, I haven't ever seen anything like this personally.

I can only speculate on what may have caused this. The disc may have had a manufacturing defect. You would probably have to contact the manufacturer directly to see if they would be willing to examine the clutch. It's possible that they would just refer you back to the parts dealership.

Failure due to overheating of clutch by abusing it. This could cause fatigue. Abuse could take the form of excessive slipping of the clutch upon engagement, overloading the vehicle with a lot of extra weight or drag like trying to pull a boat. I will just take your word for it that the clutch was not abused.

The only other thing that comes to mind is failure due to the torque capacity of the clutch being exceeded by the engine output. Not likely with a stock 1.8.

Without the support of the manufacturer, I don't know who else you could speak with other than some sort of professional shop that builds turn-key race cars. They might have seen something like this, especially in drag racing. In southern CA, there used to be a place called 20,000 RPM Speed Equipment and they built custom street and competition 2 and 3-disc racing clutches for many applications. The advice of someone who only sells parts will not help your case.

Have you tried speaking with the owner of the transmission shop? What are the terms of the warranty on the clutch?

By the way, how many miles did you put on this clutch and how many miles did you get out of the old clutch (that you put on yourself)?

Sorry to hear that you may end up selling the car. I hope things work out, one way or another.
