can anyone help me with tranny problems

my 2000 impreza RS is having tranny problems, it is a automatic trans that is not the only thing hahaha. anyway, when i put it in gear no matter if its 1,2,3, or drive it wont engage. the car will rev when i hit the gas but it wont move, its like it is in idle. it will eventually engage after a few minutes sometimes longer, but it engages immediately into reverse. does anyone know what could cause these problems. also about how much could i get a manual trans and do a swap. i am also thinking of selling it if i can find someone to buy it. i have carbon hood, cwest front bumper, 18" adr stage 2 rims and exhaust, and air intake. it has 98,000 miles on it. i am trying to get about 8,000 obo for it. thank you those for your help.

I had everything checked about a month ago, flushed and filled? It has been doing this for about 3 months now. I took it to my local subaru dealer and they said I need a new tranny and that through them it will cost about 4500 for a rebuilt. I said THAT IS BULL$hit. I dont think I have to replace it to fix the problem, thats just the dealer trying to get paid.

Sounds like a good opportunity and reason to do a manual swap!
