Remember, people without a problem are far, far less likely to complain, er, I mean put up positive feedback.

If you're getting a new wrx I'd guess the fix is inplace stock by now... but what do I know . I don't think though that grilling the salesman will do you any good. Heck, most of the time sales guys don't have a clue about stuff like this... all they care about is making the sale. Most of the time their car knowledge is less than your great-great-great grandmother's car knowledge.

Consider me a noob.... I have heard about all of this clutch shudder problems, but have yet to figure out what exactly it is. If it's not too much to ask... can someone explain to me in simple words the symptoms and what to look for about this clutch shudder problem? I bought my '03 in May 2003. I just want to know if I should be having this problem and how will I know if I have the problem. Thanks in advance.

Jamester, you are not "bound" to have clutch shudder since the problem was corrected before the 04s came out. Also, what you say to the salesman on the lot has no bearing on the final price you pay. Just shop for the best deal, most areas have at least one Subaru dealer that is easy to work with. Most WRXs around here go for pretty close to invoice price.

You know how when you are too fast or sloppy when re-egnaging the clutch? Its nothing like that Imagine if you were sloppy or lazy in engaging the clutch and instead of just jerking the engine and transmission around the clutch actually started skipping on the flywheel and went thud-thud-thud-thud.

If you get it, you'll know the difference. Its just doesn't feel right... well, until you get used to it

As for the dealer, I know his word doesn't mean diddly once the sale is complete; I guess my point was whether or not I should inquire about it, or just wait and see if I get it.

Thanks for the help!

When the TSB came out, mid-03, they started using the correct parts during the assembly process, so essentially all cars manufactured after that point already had the TSB fix. The VIN number is listed in the TSB, which is posted repeatedly in the TSB thread.
