I hate to break it to you man but your devotion to Ford is compromising your statistics. I almost bought an 04 Cobra over my STi and they're rated at 390 hp. Check your states that's straight from Ford. It may be a little underrated but I GUARANTEE you they DO NOT make 430. I raced a Mach 1 at my school and wiped his *** pretty bad (he may have been a bad driver but regardless).

 

Again the only cobra that will beat a STi stock for stock is the 03-04. period.

I GUARANTEEEE THEY DOOOO. go look at a dyno of a stock 03 cobra. they make 360-370 TO THE WHEEEEEEEEELS STOCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK. meaning = 430 Hp !!!! thatd be a little pathetic 390 hp for a s/c v8? my car's got 360 n/a.

Yeah the mach1 is dohc, but it aint the same motor, I think the intake manifolds are different, and other stuff, and it ain't a ram air it's just a shaker scoop=doesn't really do anything for performance other than nostalgia.

and the shaker hood isnt a joke or for looks. mach 1s are fast. that thing adds another 20hp, it's part of the new intake. exhaust and geared mach1s run mid 12s all day.

<sigh> dontcha just looooove all the bench racers that are so hooked on stats that they have "heard" from the neighbors, cousins, friends, sisters, boyfriends brother.......

all, I am gonna say is HP numbers dont really mean diddly squat as to how fast a car is......you have to take into account things like:

-power to weight ratio (cobra:Curb weight, 3780)(STI: Curb weight, ~3350)
-engine torque at RPM
-transmissions
-final drive ratios
-temp./humidity/barometric pressure
-fuel used
etc.

my point being, just because a car has 500hp, does NOT mean that it will win in a race with a smaller, lighter, car with less hp.

Who remembers the episode of "Top Gear" someone posted on this site, with the Ariel Atom? That car has a Civic SI motor IIRC, curb weight of about 1800lbs (or less), and was Like a second or 2 FASTER around their test track than the Porche 911GT3, and the Lambo Gallardo/Murcialago (also including acceleration times from 0mph).

Here's a link to the Ariel Atom Press website, it contains links to 2 or 3 different videos from Top Gear, as well as the answer to every stat. question you may have on this car......BTW I WAS right about the Honda i-4 Vtec engine 220BHP 0-60 = 2.91sec. (I wanna see ANY Mustang....Cobra or not see times that fast. (fullon dragsters dont count either, this car is street legal.)

So anyways a lot of people like to compare cars in a 1/4 mile on who can beat who. I believe given stock on stock both drivers having the same abilities (both excellent drivers for their particular car) the sti will notch out the win in a 1/4 mile. My reasons being TRACTION. The sti will bite down in the first 60 ft or so while the mustang will hunt for it for the first 60. But with this being said when the mustang finally finds traction its now playing a catch up game, which if you have noticed the mustang usually catches up and has a higher top end speed than the sti at the end of the 1/4. Now given you add another 100 ft to the track the mustang will win hands down, but this is not a given factor. Now if we want to even the playing field and slap on some slicks on a mustang again hands down the win will go to the mustang. Both cars are great in there own little world but come on now lets compare apples with apples. As far as a STI being a 1/4 mile car I would say yes and no. No because it was designed for the rally circuit and yes just because drag racing is an american past time we all love to do it so why not. Hope this helps with the little debate going on here these are just my opinions and mine only if you dont like them oh well thats your problem.
