You shouldnt buy an sti for drag racing. and im pretty sure a stock cobra can take an sti in the 1/4 mile but lets see the cobra even move on a gravel road or in the snow

Hmm.. you talk about STi not being a dragster, then you bring in a Cobra to a rally. The statement disputes itself.

Well, an STi should be able to take on a Cobra in a 1/4 mile drag. Anything beyond that hands down to the Cobra.

Stock vs stock the sti will win, i've been many stock corba's, but once you do one mod to the corba you have to upgrade your turbo on the STI to keep up!!

Actually, I think he was pointing out that the cobra svt and STi are built for different purposes. His dirt/snow comment was just a supporting point.

Just got back from the tracks last night, and i got to race a cobra (svt)...it was a good race but I dusted him w/ a 13.21 @ 100mph ...he ran 13.36....so an STI is not meant for drag racing, thats true.....but it doent mean anyone can just run over an sti...dont think so...thunder_sti

sorry but a stock 03 cobra runs between 12.6-12.8 @ 110-112 mph. you have raced terrible drivers!! you do know they are underrated and really have 425-430 hp and dyno 365-375 to the wheels stock?
any dohc mustang (cobra 96+. mach 1) with bolt-ons can take out an STi in the 1/4 and destroy them from a roll.

Why is this even a debate??? If you want a car that's fast in a straight line then buy the Cobra and if you like auto-x, etc... get the STi. It's really not that complicated as soon as you come to terms with reality and put the ego aside.

I know two different guys both with '03 Cobras, supercharged, both run mid-low 13's both totally stock, both race - one in Sacto and one at Infineon.

I don't doubt a modified Cobra can run 12's, I know a guy in Livermore that upgraded his tires and installed a boost controller and runs high 12's, but I don't think stock cobras run high 12's, at least not here in Northern California....trap speeds are always 105-110.

My track instructor drives a modified Mustang GT - I thought Mustangs pushed like hell, but he changed the suspension and he rocks. Likewise the fastest guy in my group last track day was a Saleen S351 - freaking fast and cornered well.

i'm not arguing the point anymore. the cobra is faster than the STi. It's a fact. Go look at stangnet.com or svtperformance.com for time slips. even the mach 1's are hitting 13.1 bone stock. get real. these bad drivers are giving the mustang a bad name. It's actually better this way because when an STi meets a cobra on the road they'll soon find out who's faster. 105 is complete bs for a trap speed on an 03. try 113. my 98 cobra will pee on an STi right now as well.

the jist of it is, if you take any car out of its element, its not going to do as well as a car made for that specific purpose.

Ahhhh stangnet.com <----- my brother's holy land

First off.....it depends what year cobra?

94-95 5.0's only have 240 or 260hp
96-98 4.6's have 300 hp
99-01 4.6's have 320hp
and 03-04 cobras have or claim 365hp

Somehow I doubt those 13.1 mach 1's are "bone stock", the 320hp cobras only ran mid 13's when they first debuted. I know, irs vs. solid rear, but still.

So that being said, the only cobra that would beat a STi stock for stock would be.......drum roll please......the 03-04 cobra.

94-95 = 240 hp. little underrated

96-98 = 305 hp
99 and 01 = 320 hp
2003-04 = 430 hp (they are underrated)
03-04 mach 1 = even more underrated. it is possible for a stock mach to beat a stock sti. it's a drivers race. it is an 01 cobra motor with the ram air intake ans just improved over the years. they have closer to 350 hp and 360 tq. and yes i've seen the slips of ones that ran 13.1 stock.

and any 96+ bolt-on cobras can take an sti. they are dohc and redline at 6800.
