EJ18 to EJ20T or TT swap

I have a 96 Subaru Impreza Brighton and would like to change out the EJ18 for the EJ20T or the EJ20TT. When it comes to engine work, I know whats up... but as for the rest like Ecu and everything, im dumb. What I would like is to know what I have to do in order to get it running and tuned out, not just running on the old 1.8 ecu, and where I can find all the parts. So basically...

1. Is there much that i am missing from the 20T that i cant just work out of the 18?

2. Would the EJ20TT fit?... cause I have heard that it wont... and why?

3. If I swapped the 18 for the 20T, then can I run it on the stock ecu and get everything out of it (tho i doubt it) or do i have to switch out the ecu? Where do i buy it or where do i get it done?

4. Where is a good place to find performance parts for older subarus?... i have looked all over the place and cant find anything deeper than like intake and exhaust.


Reading all the posts and everything on this site... i can tell that this subject has been beaten to a bloody plup... but this is something that i am really interested in doing. Im a first time sub owner and dont know much when it comes to them. I've owned others and tuned others but coming into this one i wanna make sure that i know whats going on before i do anything drastic and cant go back.

P.S. I guess the application would be nice too. I want something that is a good daily driver, but when I need the power to put some tuner baby in check, then its there with a vengence. And something to take to the strip and whip would be nice as well.

whenever you swap the motor, you'll most likely use the new ecu. if you were to take an ej20t motor, you use that ecu and splice the harnesses from both motors(new and existing) in order for the ecu to recognize boost and keep function of your interior items and whatnot. most ej20t swaps are easy with any 93-01 impreza, as they have similar wiring for non-motor related things.

also, i'm pretty sure a TT motor wont fit in your engine bay..

not sure if the 1.8 is all too popular, but you might consider a 2.2l swap. those are pretty good for making power if built up correctly. however, the easiest and most straight foward swap is the ej20t (wrx motor). hope this helps

i know im new but i heard somewhere i think on the 2.5rs forum that a ej20tt wont fit due to the placemeant of the steering colum runs into the second turbo but they said they made it work buy doing pipe work for the turbo dontk now if this helps you but i tried

The ej20tt is pretty hard to find and it won't work, at least in its stock form, on left hand drive cars it will hit the brake booster and such.
