Strange sounds

I started to hear this strange sound yesterday. When I turn my steering wheel either direction I hear a "clunk" sound. I had the boots checked and everything looks good. What else could it be?

Asking around about the noise, I had heard everthing from steering linkage to CV joints all the way up to the power steering pump. The power steering pump shouldn't make a mechanical "clunking" sound. Is it possible that the CV is failing inside the boot with any noticable signs on the boot itself?

well...

as a hunch, did you happen to hit a large pothole? or bump? If so, it might be the wheel bearings? Those have seemed to be a good place to start with that kind of noise?

Again, just a thought.

Later,

I assume you have a wrx???

If so, maybe the drop and the tire package is causing the tires to rub?

Any ideas on the tire/rim size and the springs/struts you are using? That might do it?

Tein S-tech springs, stock shocks for now

The tires don't rub, this is a new problem that occured after the car was dropped. At least 2 weeks afterwards. Thanks for the ideas on where to start. I do really appreciate the help

I'm gonna take it to a shop on monday. That kinda sucks that I have to wait til then to do it. I had a friend in the car last night and the car barely made any noise at all. After a few minutes, it finally did it. It was just funny that it was quiet for her. I spoke to my dealer about it, and they kinda pointed to my "altered suspension." I asked them how does springs and strut bars affect that? They didn't really give me a straight answer, but who knows. If it did affect it, that would be interesting to know.

I had the same problem when someone installed the springs on my car they did not align the top hat correct and the springs would bind and clunk when turning, I had to rip them apart and fix them and all is swell, only took 1 hour to fix, since oyu do not have compress the springs.

To make things more interesting, I found out that my sub-frame bolts came loose too. I think that had a little to play into the sound, but after they were tighten back up, the sound is still there, just not as loud. I was going to take it to the shop that installed my springs and ask them to take a look at it.
