Ummm...Laser is not the end all of speed detection. You have to be stationary to use it, and now some of the laser jammers that are out are just awesome...as in "jam all the way to the gun" See blinder M20 or M40...and the new Laser mimic.

The suposedly undetectable radar is POP radar...a 63ms pulse, but the new detectors...ala Bel RX65, 8500 X50, and V1 1.8 r. 8.24 can detect it. MPH has a new detector (z-35) that has a 16ms pulse, and it is still undetectable, but it is also an unreliable radar. When your pulses are that short, range and accuracy become an issue.

Nice bump...

I dont know if anything like this has hit the states yet, but when/if it does, it will probably be deemed illegal within a few days.

My in-laws gave me a damn good birthday present this year. After all that talk about "drive safe" and whatnot, they give me a radar detector. Now, I thought this was just a cheesy box that beeps when it picks up any kind of signal (garage door openers, etc..), until I actually sat down and learned all the functions this thing has. First off, it has a GPS reciever built in with free downloadable updates (through a CELL PHONE) that have the latest information about camera locations, police hiding spots, and trap zones. You get a warning of potential danger about a mile out. It monitors the Japanese police radio frequencies and lets you know when a cop is transmitting radio around your location, and which type of radio it is (mobile handheld, vehicle mounted or from a police station). It picks up all radar bands in use, laser, and can even pick up loop detection systems (sensor at point A, sensor at point B, speed is calculated by how fast you pass through both). It has a solar-charged battery, so your cigarette lighter stays free. At $350, I am glad I got it as a gift, but even if I didn't, I would still throw down the cash to get one. Especially here in Japan, where the whole damn country is camera-crazy and getting caught by a radar-cam while doing 30kph over the limit can get you a maximum $1000 fine and 6 months in jail. A speeding ticket can get you fired from your job too. And if you get tagged by multiple cameras, even if they are on the same stretch of road, fuggetaboudit. That doesn't matter. Its counted as separate offenses, and you have to pay the grand total. $350 is chump change compared to that.

The best thing is, it works. I especially like when it calls out the cop car hiding spots. The cops around Tokyo drive unmarked 2005 Skylines and the ones further north drive Subaru B4's. Its great to get that warning and then see a Skyline sitting in the bushes while you cruise by at .5mph below the speed limit.

Anywho, the company who makes these is called Yupiteru. Keep an ear out for the name. www.yupiteru.co.jp Click on the SR640i model. Even if you don't read Japanese, the pictures are pretty self-explanatory as to the capabilities of this thing.
