Motor swap (newb question, already searched)

I already searched and didnt come up with what I really wanted to hear.
Please hold the flames, as this is coming from a honda boy wanna be suby owner.
I'm selling my 00 Si for financial issues and I would like to get something AWD. I obviously can't afford a WRX, and I wouldnt consider any other awd car because I hear nothing but bad things about them (err hmmm DSM mm). I've always liked the styling of the 98-01 Imprezas, so I think I would like to get one. My question is, is it difficult to do a motor swap in one of these? Say for instance with a WRX motor? I have seen a lot of boosted 2.5rs of that year and from what I can see they seem to be pretty reliable, but I would like to go ahead and get the rex powerplant because I'm sure that there are many more modifications readily available for this motor currently, not to mention the market will only grow in the future. When I say is it difficult, I'm asking if it would require much more effort and money than for say a motor swap in a Honda. I would be doing the swap myself with the help of a friend who knows a lot more than me.
Sorry to use up bandwith with stupid questions like this, but the weather lately makes me think AWD would be nice here on Long Island. Thanks for your help.

I've seen shops do the swap you are advertising for $7k-9k or so. I assume that means that you could do it cheaper, if you do it yourself. From what I hear, the hardest part is the wiring. The wiring takes a majority of the time in a ej20t swap.
I've never done it myself, but hopefully someone with some knowledge will chime in. If no one does, try asking this question in the WRX Powerplant forum, there are people there that have done this swap.

Definitely doable. Not as simple as the Honda swaps, but the entire '02+ WRX drivetrain is essentially drop in to the earlier GC8 Impreza chassis that you like. Steve Barsotti at Barsotti's Auto Care in Newcastle Cal. did a wagon and its sugar sweet. Your main concerns will be wiring, and even that won't be a big *****. Lots of common parts between the two chassis. Definitely doable.
You can do it. But judging by the price, it's probably a lot harder than it is for a Honda.
No need to apologize. Just be careful. Once you go AWD, the darkness sets in...and it's all you want!

Here is the links from i-speed on the estimated costs between swaping a WRX motor and turboing the 2.5.
