lol...You can't push start a car (at least one utilizing an alternator) if the battery is completely dead, can you?
1: Attach positive (red) lead to the positive (+) terminals on each battery (dead battery first)
2: Attach negative (black) to negative on both batteries, or engine block (good battery first)
3: High idle engine for about two minutes and give the dead battery a try.
Remember, though...It's a good idea to avoid sparks or flame when charging a battery like this, since the result of charging a battery containing sulfuric acid is hydrogen gas, which is the most flammable thing in the universe...For reals.
Also, if the terminals are corroded (characterized by a crusty blue-green color), it's a good idea to clean them off. Baking soda and water works well because it is alkaline and reacts with the acidic nature of the corrosion, acting as a solvent...sort of. Bubbles like hydrogen peroxide.
It's best to use a battery charger if you have one nearby, though, since charging a bad battery repeatedly from dead can be hard on the alternator, or so I hear....I'm really a n00b at all of this automotive stuff.

I think what he means is that if the battery isn't completely dead, you can put the car in third, keep the clutch in till you're going as fast as someone can push you, then let out on the clutch all at once...Should start. Make sure the ignition is on and the car is a manual.
