Gti R32

I read some stuff on, "the most bad-*** volkswagen ever to hit the U.S market." The new GTI R32 looks pretty sweet with a VR6 motor pushin around 230hp and get this, AWD!! Goon have 18's and i'm guessin it will look like the new 20th aniversary editions with the factory drop and kit they put on it. Although i think someone told me their re-doing the grill and rear end. O and it's gonna have not dual tiped but dual exhaust, both single tiped. Sounds pretty sweet to me. I personally like Volkswagen and especially GTI's. I just wonder how it will compare with the WRX....

I was up at waterwagens and watched the Neuspeed (yes they've already modded one--imported it from europe I believe) pull two 15 plus runs in a row. I was really dissapointed. It was hot out, but thats just plain bad for a car with that much power.

It looked good, sounded good and ran smooth. Just not fast.

i was in one about a year ago in germany. so sweet and i think this time they are going to bring over the same car and not a
sh-ty USA version. It sould be hard to beat on the track and a lot of fun to drive.

The R32 is a cool car, but for $30K, I'd buy an STi or EVO.

Wimpy 1.8T is ~20K. An R32 will be 25-30K and in a word, will be "Toast" against a WRX, not even worth the bother for us STi guys.

Actually, from what I've seen/heard, the 1.8T is fairly quick when modded.

I know that 150hp motor is easily turned into an Audi 1.8 motor which puts out 180HP. With some more serious work, you can make it a 225hp Audi motor. But will it break into the 5's or mid nineties like a WRX, I doubt it. Nowadays dropping into the 6 sec zone won't win you many stoplight battles against our Subies. Always thought VW's were German Chevy's anyways.

If you look at the new issue of European Car, they just had their 1.8t challenge. Fast cars but lots of $.

A friend of mine has a 1.8T. He says people buy the VW 1.8T for luxury and people buy the WRX for out of the box performance.

FYI, I've been informed most later models of the 1.8T are the 180hp version (2002-2003).
