do I need a new clutch?
I was driving this weekend and my car has absolutely no power. To even get it to move along I have to rev up to around 5k then I slowly start moving forward. Getting up hills in either first or second gear is a chore now. This just started happening so I'm wondering if I should buy a new clutch or not?
If so does anybody know a place in maryland (montgomery or pg county) I can go to besides the dealership near me? They want a bit over a grand to install it. I really don't have that much, but can spare up to eight hundred to get my car operational again.

It may not be as close as you like, but Foreign Auto Experts in Elkridge (Howard County) is where I take my older Subaru for service (I have a '92 Legacy and an '02 WRX). They replaced the clutch and timing belt on the Legacy for a great price (it was under $800), and have also replaced all the CV Boots (a little over $100 apiece) on the Legacy. The WRX hasn't needed service yet (and probably won't for a long time, since I do most of the service maintenance myself).
What kind of Subaru do you drive? If it is newer, you may want to check with them to see if they are familiar enough with the new models. Oh, and they use OEM Subaru parts. Let me know if you are interested and I'll PM you their info.

Mine is starting to slip on my 99rs.
Was quoted by the dealership for all new stuff under 700. I don't even have that. Just bought a house and trying to finish the project on my s10.
1st thru 4th is strong. Most of my driving is stop and go traffic anyways. The clutch will just have to wait.
Is there any good performance clutches out there?

My clutch on my 99rs was just replaced mostly under warranty. 39000 easy miles, and it the thing would slip like crazy under hard accel in 4th or 5th gear. Turned out to be a faulty clutch slave cylinder, not allowing the clutch do engage fully. (probably from new, as I always thought the clutch sucked) I had to pay for a new clutch disc and the 100 deductable on my subaru gold extended warranty.
Could not have been happier, when the dealership called and told me my warranty will be covering most of it (I thought I was SOL as far as warranty work goes for the clutch)
Have the dealership check it out. I am glad I did. BTW one dealership quoted me 1300 bucks to replace the clutch... ouch!! Others said 850.
Total cost was 238 bucks with the warranty covering the rest. (Thanks North End Subaru!)
