...yeah, and usually reverse is the closest to 1:1 ...this has been done to all cars since cars were invented, it's not that bad on trannys...the energy from rolling goes into starting the car, not into breaking anything...

and reverse is probably the furthest thing from 1:1 in your gearbox. Considering its a lower gear than 1st. Top speed isn't that high.
at 500rpms the size of your tires thats moving pretty quick
Now i can't theorize what is the closest gear thats 1:1 for engine rpm to axel speed but 5th may come resonably close. Your tires aren't spinning at 5k you know its reduced by the differentials yet again by a 1:4.11 ratio.
When starting the car it works in reverse spinning the engine. Lets just say for scientific sakes that a gear is 1:4 ratio. The engine spins at 1k rpms so the gear reduces that to 250rpms.
So we push the car without the engine so the tires now spin at 100rpms if we engage the clutch its only 400rpms on the engine
Hope that wasn't too long winded.
If you are worried about the tranny then don't pop the clutch, just kind of ease it in.
I miss my 3rd gen Civic Si. It was so light that if you failed on the first clutch-start you could push it UPHILL to try again.
