Contemplating bw sti/Mr
Just like the title says.. I currently own an s2k and want to switch over to the sti or the MR. Dont get me wrong, I love the s2000 but I need a roomier car from getting stuff from one place to another. I have a few questions though, being that I really dont know much about the sti. I test drove it and was very impressed. However, it has been 2 years since it has been out. What major changes do you think the 2006 will have? will it be a total redesign? I know the 286hp MR will be available in sept. I am just unsure if I should wait to get the 2006 or get the current 05. You probably get a lot of these questions, but i'd appreciate your feedback. Thanks

Try checking out a search for the 2006 Impreza, you will get lots of hits. As for your decision, it really depends on what you want to do with your car. Do you want a reliable DD (Daily Driver)? Or are you looking for an Auto-X mobile? Or maybe a drag car? If you want a reliable DD, check out the STi, better interior, much better tranny, and a slightly more powerful motor. The MR beats the STi like a redheaded step-child in the twisties, but has a Mitsubishi name and less power in the straight lines.
It really depends on where you want to go.

i agree with pyro.
The MR is really great for road racing and i am quiet envious of those who can afford such an expensive car.
Both are great cars, but i would choose the MR over the STi any day. Ive also been to the evolution forums and the mods they have done to their cars yield a lot of power.
If youve read Sport Compact Car also, they worship the evo's and i can't imagine why not.
However, pyro is correct that the STi's are far better daily drivers.

Yeah, and the EVO blocks have that nasty habit of gaining crazy amounts of power with minimal modification.
If you want a daily driver definitely go with the STI. The MR is more comfortable than the standard EVO VIII or the RS. For autocrossing, I have only seen one EVO at an autocross and I run with three different clubs, plus Mitsubishi is being horrible about warranty work if they think you have competing with it. They search the clubs websites to see if they find your name. If they do your warranty is ditched.

I need a daily driver and I do not plan on auto X at all. I did so with my s2000, but I do not plan to with sti/Mr. What i'm really worried about is, if I should buy either car now or wait until the new models arrive. I dont want to take a hit if I were to sell the car a few years down the line. As for the search function.. Good call.. Thats the first thing I should have done, but you know I am ready to buy either cars by the end of this week and very indecisive. Thanks a lot guys

If you want a DD, I would go with an STi regardless of year.
I am also looking to buy either a MR or Sti in about a month. One thing about the Evo that really gave me cold feet is when I learned that the CEO they hired to get Mits back on path resigned around a month ago. I don't know the particulars but on the surface this does not bode well for the future of North American auto operations.

hey guys
don't know too much about the mechanicals, but i know a little bit about the business. mitsu's turnaround efforts are hitting some snags in japan. they were bailed out for a couple billion a few months ago, and no new news has come out about north america.
regardless, i don't think mitsu motors will go out of business. it's too venerable of a name, and north america is too big of a market for it to leave. so have no worries about the warranty issue.
as for a DD, i've only been driving an sti for about a month and i must say it's a great daily driver. the ride is harsher than an s2000 for sure. be prepared.

Nothing against mitsu, just citing facts. I can quote the specifics if you like.
I hear the STi had a much more forgiving feel and certainly is smoother around the edges, so to speak. But you really just have to drive both and see which you like better. I have sat in the MR and did not think the interior was great for a car in that price range. The STi I felt was better then most Japanese cars today, and better then the vast majority of American cars. Only European cars seemed nicer inside to me then subarus.
