Beater Car
Well, with an exhaust as well as all the attention that I get from everyone (due to alarms being set off and what not), I have been contemplating the purchase of another vehical. The only car that I am having an eye for is a late 80's to early 90's Toyota Cressida. The only thing is that i am afraid that it will become another project car.
If I were to get one, the most I would admit to doing would be a suspension and wheels...but, all things snowball....
what are your .02 on this idea?

I've been debating this as well and I also love old Toyotas as you seem to. However I want a 70s Corolla but I know this will become another money pit. So for me, I threw this idea out, at least until I make more money. I wanted to do suspension and wheels. But I know it wont stop there. I would also get dual sidedraft carbs and more and more mods.

Well obviously we are all car guys if we are on this forum and car guys cant resist on improving their car, so there is really no way around it. One solution could be to get a motorcyle. They are cheap, save gas, and you can cut through traffic.

yeah, you're right about the improving of the car...like i said though, i am just worried about it snowballing into something bigger than it was intended to be. wheel/tire setup along with suspension is inevitable.

The beauty of a beater is that you can put used parts on it and be happy about it. Just select a beater that's got a following and decent aftermarket support like the cressida or an old celica. For example, last year I picked up a 93 Sentra SE-R for $700. I cruised around sr20forum.com for a few months to pick up tips on necessary repairs, then snared a used set of Eibach springs and KYB GR2s for $100. I've been happy with the car ever since, and I'm plenty busy just keeping it running so the mod-bug has stayed away for awhile. Plus, less miles on the Subie

I had a 1989 Toyota Tercel last summer thing was awsome. I learned how to drive stick on it, I bought it for 400 bucks. The thing was so bad the e-brake wouln't hold in my driveway (somewhat steep), it didn't have a RPM gauge or a passenger side mirror (not broken off, it came like that!!!). I loved that car, The worst thing I did when I was learning was I dropped it from 5th to 2nd instead of 4th by accident getting off a highway, I swear my rpm's bounced off the redline a few times.
