It is fine for 99% of the people. The Evo FQ400 in the UK comes with a 6speed and full warranty , 400flywheel hp.
if you like to do hardcore car bowling than the 5spd would be a better idea.

I heard it had more to do with gearing and weight of the wheels.
I had an Evo 8 when it just came out that Bozz took over. It's a cool car. I like them both. The only thing that I don't like to do on the Evo as far as mods go is changing the clutch. It's a pain compared to changing one on the suby. That's the only thing I can gripe about. For you, just pay someone to do it.
