I did not check the wires and coil pack when I changed them, how would I check them?

Well with the coil packs make sure they are snug on the plug. If not all the way seated it could misfire. Not sure is would give you bad mpg though. Also make sure under the intake manifold that the other ends of the coil packs are seated properly.

our cars are not coil on plugs like the turbo cars. just one coil pack made into the DIS system on top of the intake manifold.

Just be sure there is no corrosion. I don't think this is the issue, but, check it anyways.

did you replace the knock sensor?

you need a volt meater to check the wires a shop manual should tell what they should read also check the plug in to the coil as well as the plug wire contion to the coil and the plugs make sheur they are all on good.
like I said befor I think it the knock or o2 sensor more then likely.
I'm going out on a lim hear because he has replaced almost every thing ells.

Yeah, I replaced it yesterday and I THINK it fixed the problem, I'll find out tomorrow when I drive to tracy and back

I had a bad knock sensor once, and it would think i was knocking and would pull the timing harshly, made the motor choke nearly to a stop, and all kinds of crazy stuff.

Luckily Mike (of GST <MPJ at the time>) had one on the L that wasn't even plugged in, and gave it to me. Still have it on the car after all these years.

My car would have rough take offs sometimes with the old knock sensor, it seems to drive a lot smoother now, and im going on 60 miles and bearly going to use a quarter tank rather than 40 miles per quarter tank

good size improvement. keep driving and see how it goes. Might take a while for the Ecu to give all the timing back.

Okay so I ended up not going to tracy after all but I did drive a lot last night, I'm at 136 Miles and a little under half a tank, this was 99% city driving and with the A/C when I got hot. also I had a little fun with my friends up some twisties last night too so I'm guessing i'm doing pretty good right now?

smell the exhaust it'll tell you everything you need to know. If it smells really good and rich like colonel 87/hahawhatajoke89/91 unburnt you are still retarded in timing. If it smells like exhaaust you fixed it and will now be right. Treat your car like a computer (which it is) and don't let it get any bad readings from faulty/broken sensors and you're golden.

Yeah, you are looking good. Keep track of the nest few tanks. Should be about 300 miles per tank if you are 50/50 city/hwy.
