I'd guess that you have an issue that needs fixing.
Yeah, CELs cause a safe mode, which severely retards timing and runs very rich. This also caused my brother's prelude's cat to die due to a very rich mixture.

I average 24mpg. I get about 320 on a typical mixed city/hwy SPIRITED driving.

I can get 30mpg on the hwy. I go to LA on 1 tank.

didnt know RS gets that bad of mileage. i was thinking at mid to high 20s.

it's not bad. better than the turbo cars with the same type of driving.

On the block, under the throttle body. It's a banjo bolt.

Did you check your tire pressure? That can affect it a lot as well.

And not all CEL's cause it to go in limp mode.
