I rarely ever drive up to my personal abilities. On the road, as opposed to on the track, I strongly feel that you should never drive above 80% of your abilities. this allows you to have a way out as you never know whats coming around the next corner.
Even on the track, when you are learning and improving your speed, I dont ride at 100%. Improving your technique will speed yo uup faster and better than pushing your limits to 100% of your ability.
When you are in a race, thats where things change.

that being said.. i hope the people in the car are ok and recover.. and just as important, I hope they take away good lessons that will prevent then from repeating the poor decisions.
