You telling me its not a lot easier for someone that has certain advantages to make something of their lives? I'm not saying that someone that doesn't has an excuse... hell, these days the worse off you are the more help you get.
Working hard doesn't necessarily mean jack ****. Honestly Paul I'm tired of people saying that. It's a cop out. I know people that are lazy and get **** handed to them on a platter and I know people that have spent a lifetime working their asses off to get no where. Life throws curve ***** at some people. Sometimes you work hard you get rewarded. Sometimes you have another hammer hit your fingers and have to keep on going. It's an easy thing to say. Work hard/change your life. Not always true.
And I do think its fair to ask the wealthy to carry more. Percentages are percentages.

$2.8 million could buy enough houses for 6 generations.

Just a thought, someone making that kind of cash isn't going to live in a place where you can buy 6 houses for 2.8 mil. That barely gets you a sub-average home in the Bay Area. And, no, 1.4 million is NOT enough for one generation. I suppose you could get by on that, but not much more.

my family has been "getting by" on $70,000/yr and we have a house.
I'd be glad to let you know how i would spend my $1.4 million that apparently wont get me by LMAOOOOOOO
I'd be glad to let you know how i would spend my $140,000! which would be enough for 20 generations
Its called down payment dude. We work for a few main reasons in life...to raise a family and to buy a house. If you can knock the house off that list you pretty much could work any job and live the good life. Ask my friend with the inherited house, and garage full of hot rods and motorcycles.

i think it's worth noting that CA already has one of the highest STATE taxes in teh United States. As someone mentioned above, as soon as you earn a "decent" (not necessarily livable) wage, you're being taxed at a State rate of 9.3% Now, add on the 10% sales tax that affects nearly EVERYTHING you buy???
man, we are paying it out the rear! Seriously, why don't we live within our budget (as a state)? I've heard 45% of the CA general fund pays out to education. I think that's important, but sheesh, when you hear EVERY school district from Pre-K, Junior High, High school AND college (UC and State) system crying about the cuts? Something doesn't add up. Where is all the money going?
Obviously we're going through an economic contraction/recession. Funds will not be available, people are unemployed = less income tax received. Then less things sold = less sales tax (net amount collected). People are having their property taxes reassessed...less tax money in county gov't coffers.
I think it's obvious cuts need to be made in every area. I vote Democrat, but I believe we have to live within our means. Otherwise, you're just going to keep digging the hole, deeper and deeper...

haha yeah well unfortunately youd have to get some type of job
to keep the 1.4 million afloat
if i had a house of my own, and a car, i wouldnt be sitting in class right now! I'd be working a city job with benefits and be set for life.
