who's up for 10% sales tax...

the GOVERNATOR thinks the only way to make close to 4 billion budget hole is to raise sales tax in the state for 3 years.

1.5% through out the state.

for alameda county, currently at 8.75%... that's 10.25%

surrounding counties have lesser tax...

part of the plan is to tax new things like LABOR. like car shop labor...

i say cut back on stuff like prisons. after all, they did something bad and prisons aint supposed to be like a vacation. if our military people can be crammed onto racks when they sleep... why cant prisoners????

My roommate always brought up a good idea, of a fast food tax. Stuff like McDonalds, Starbucks, etc... If it's a 1-2% increase, people are still going to be buying their fast food, and it's not something you can buy out of state to try and avoid sales tax.

However, all this tax increase is going to do is cause people to buy more stuff out of state, causing a decrease in revenue. IMHO, it's going to backfire if implemented.

How often does tax cost more than shipping?

we are gonna be at 10% up here then. that ****ign sucks. the percent raise we have right now was only supposed to be for a little bit. plus a lot of cities are having financial problems so taxes amongst the cities will probably go up.

Where did you get that info? Hope that's not true. It's going to worsen the economics even more.

If companies would manage themselves better and stop paying CEO's $50 million a year then less of them would need bail outs and tax payers wouldn't have to bail them out constantly.

Far as I'm concerned... you go out of business... someone will take over your spot that is doing things right.

So tired of tax payers having to pay for corporate and government mismanagement.

This tax is stupid. They'd make that budget up and have a surplus in ONE year... then what? You think they'll put it back down. Yeah right. They'll give themselves all raises to take the surplus down.

^^You are right about that! I think that idea is that once we are used to paying a higher sales tax, they simply spend more, create a new deficit, and then do it all over again. When does it end? Brucelee, better get that car and all the work you want done to it before our sales tax gets jacked up!
