I think I'll be going with the RT-615. Like Gagan said, I won't be able to utilize the RE-01R's, not to mention that I don't want to stunt my ability to learn either.

Gagan : FWIW, the Integra weighs about 2325-2350 (empty, about 2600 with me in it ). Guessing Kevin's L is about 2800 empty? The L is also on wider tires (Integra is on 205/45R16) . Weight per tread width probably isn't as different as you think, and AWD = easier on the fronts (although tougher on the rears) compared to a nose-heavy FWD.
NEW grip between the RE-01R and the others (RT-615 or even the RS2) isn't that different. The RE-01R is a little better, but we're not exactly talking the difference between VictoRacers and V710s here . Where the real difference is what happens after 30-50 runs....the Falken or RS2 is going away fast in terms of grip (and outright tread!), the RE-01R isn't. That's where that "cheaper cost per run" comes in.
If you want the "ultimate grip when new" STS tire right now, I suspect it might just be the new Toyo. It is either the Toyo or Yoko Advan AD07 for STX/STU. However the Toyo wears REALLY fast (pics of it after 30-40 runs on sccaforums.com are pretty scary), and I agree would not be the tire for Kevin here. Hell, it isn't the tire for me either, I'm looking forward to NOT buying 37 tires this year

Whatever you guys think will be the best for me. I am not going to deal with tires until after finals anyway, so there is no need to really rush about it.

I'm also gonna need a new set of tires in a few events time and I currently run 615's (235/40/17) but my question for Gagan, Ed and the experienced AutoX guys is this, Do I need to stick with a 235/40/17 or will a 245/40/17 fit?? I have an 05 WRX sedan with rolled lips and camber set at -2.5F -1.5R.
My weekday tires are 245/40/18's SO3's but they rub under load and cornering, but I'm hoping a 245/40/17 will fit nicely.
What do you think, cos I would like to go 245 if possible, and I'm thinking of RE-01r's or Advans.

I think your car may need to be a little stiffer to stop the rubbing.

Glen : I'd stick with the 235/40R17 in STX. Couple of reasons :
1. The 235 tire seems to work better on an 8.0" wide rim (max rim width for STX) versus a 245. If STX allowed 17x8.5" or 17x9" rims, I'd think more about going with the 245s.
2. The 235/40R17 is shorter than the 245/45R17 or 245/40R17. The WRX has a "tall" second gear, so some shorter gearing (via tires) is beneficial. This is, of course, opposite to the STI situation ("short" second gear) and they usually go the other way running the "taller" 245/45R17.
Last set on my WRX (before I sold it) was 17x8 Rota Torques, 235/40R17 RS2s (before the RE-01R was out in that size ), rolled lips in back, 6 kg/mm springs (Helix coilovers), -0.5 deg camber, about an inch lower (if that) than stock. All on an 02 WRX Wagon. It never rubbed, even over the bumpy turns at Candlestick .

Thanks for the tips, looks like I will buy another set of 235 azenis. They lasted roughly 70 runs plus being daily driven for 12,000 miles.
last autoX I was on my cast 18"s with SO3's and the lag seemed a lot more.
See you guys on sunday.

I would be shocked if 245/40/17 fit on Kevin's L. Unless the coupe L has more fender flare than the sedan, the Falken RT-615 in 245/47/17 will most likely rub.
dan 2304k has a 96 L sedan with complete STi swap, literally everything but the uni-body. 225/45/17 Falken RT-615 rubbed on the rear fenders with his coil overs. We spent quite a bit of time rolling out the fender lip and beating the fender well in a few spots.

my 225's rubbed paint off my AGX struts. dont know if it was from the 50 offset, but def from the 53. rear fenders came cut.
im gonna try 235's if i get some wheels. 205-225 is amazing, so 10 more mm should be worth it.
16" BTW

With the below pictures you should be able to see relative ride height and also how the gap closes to and over the tire but doesn't touch the tire.
Also, I run 5mm spacer in the front and 3mm spacer in the back to help widen the track and give more bite up front.
