Kevin, how many miles/year do you drive? I don't have the RE-01Rs, but have been pretty happy with my RE050A Pole Positions. They last about a year for me and I do about 15K of relatively hard miles.

my non pole position re050a's lasted a good amount of time (probably a little over a year, and I drive about 280 mi/wk so ~15k mi/yr)

I would pay a little more for the performance, and RE01R > *.

Tirerack seems to have the best price on the re-01r's. I've been really happy with them, and they have lasted about twice as long as my 615's, and the grip hasn't fallen off like it did w/ the 615's. Oh they were both shaved to 6/32" and used strictly for autox but I did drive to the close events on them. Kevin you might look into the dunlop direzza z1's if tirerack has them in stock in your size. I've been hearing great things about them so far.

Try looking at those if you are trying to find "cheap". The ratings seem better...

problem with those ratings are they are from the customers online surveys, so of course people who buy a cheap tire and are happy with them will rate them close to 10, when a race tire may get a 6/10 but still kick the S*** out of that particular tire.

Thats what i was gonna suggest. Thats the only tire ive ever had ( dont know about the "Pole Position" part)

225 50 16 they are down to their lowest tread bar, and get better with age IMO since they are balder. Its pretty hard to break the rear loose and are really predictable.

I drive about 50/50 Highway/abrasive mtn tarmac on -1.5 camber all around. The shoulders still wear faster than the insides so i should push it more negative.

but the 050's are nice, 140 TW i dont know what TW the RE01Rs are but same brand should be able to judge the life of them.

how about kumho mx? they are definitely a slower tire than the 615 or re01r but they last a fairly long time IMHO. i have around 13k daily driven miles and 1 HPDE on my set of kumho mx and they are only down to 5/32" tread depth

my previous set of tires was RT215 (no experience with the 615s or the re01r) and i like the kumhos better because i find them to be less heat sensitive

EDIT: another cheapo tire that might be worth looking into is a sumitomo tire that has 160 treadwear rating.. i forget the name but its stupid cheap and based on the TW seems like it is at least trying to be a performance oriented tire

I have these on my R32 (replaced S-02A's) and I have no complaints. Every time I drive hard on these tires I am seriously impressed. Last weekend I took a pretty spirited trip down/up 9 w/ 4 people in the car and did not hear a peep from the tires. Maybe the 01R's are better, but on my heavy pig of a car, these RE050A's kick ****. Haven't taken them on a track yet, but on a lighter Suby they should stick like glue.

RE-050A PPs were a great tire, while they lasted. I am takng better care of my RE-01Rs, and keeping the pressure at 40+ to keep from wearing the outer edge so badly. Granted, most of my driving is on rough surfaced roads, and not nice smooth parking lots :P With about -1.8 degrees front camber, and a 22-24mm Whiteline FSB, I had a lot of faith in the car.

The RE-01R is a 140 TW as well. i was lucky and picked up a set from TireRack at $120 a tire about 8 months ago

^ yeah i got my 050's for $80 each about a year ago.

the 050's are quiet, not that that matters to me as long as they stick. Nice being able to drive by houses in the mtns without being a dick and making your tires squeal though.

235/45ZR17$145.00

245/45ZR17 $136.00

my 16" 050's are heavy though at 25lbs, RS2's are 23 lbs

But the RE01Rs are extremely grippy, good fall off, don't tend to heat cycle out badly.

The azenis are much the same but with less raw grip.

The rs2s are in between in raw grip, but heat cycle out nearly 3/4 of a second within 10 events! Great for street driving, but competition wise they will end up giving time away.

Kevin, trust me, get the azenis or the Rs-2, for you the RE01R would be a waist of money.
