How about a late model Prelude with S2000 swap and rwd conversion, that would be fun!

I really really don't like S2000, especially the new ones with the stupidly made powerband... Where you hit peak hp at around 8k?

It seems like more and more people are speaking out towards an EVO.

I have driven one, and I didn't like the feeling at all. Oh, sorry, according to edmunds, it makes peak power @ 8300 RPM (for the 2.0L ). So, you have like 700 RPM to go through. And peak torque is @ 7500 RPM which gives you a whole 1.5k to go through.

Similar numbers are for the '05 (2.2L). Which makes peak power @ 6800 RPM giving them 700 RPM after peak HP, and peak torque @ 6500 RPM, giving you a bit more torque room at 2k until redline. (Yes, the redline was altered for higher displacement from a 9000 RPM engine to an 8500 RPM)

Damn, if it hits peak hp then, you got tuned really retardedly. Who would want their peak power @ redline? I think my rex hits max power around 4300 RPM

As for a stock WRX (MY 2002), you hit peak power @ 6000 RPM giving 1k RPM through redline, and peak torque @ 4000 giving you 3k to play with.

I've driven a friend's one a bunch of times. The chassis is good, but the engine always felt anemic. If I wanted a performance 2-seater, I'd probably go back to a 3rd gen RX-7. I owned one for 4 years and it was a fun car.

It would be interesting to try the new S2000 though since the engine has been re-worked.

W.R.T. what to buy next, my GF has decided that she likes the Lotus Elise. She has already been for a ride in one and says she loves it - so who am I to argue I figure a used Forester or Legacy would make a good utility vehicle to pair up with a toy car.

you need to get y0 head checked

<flame on>

HP is a product (see wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horse_power ) of torque and really is not all that significant. Torque is what matters.

Yes the Honda motors are high reving, and the max torque and HP is up around 6-7K RPM which does suck.

The WRX reachs peak torque around 4K RPM, and peak HP around 6200RPM, that is both stock and tuned. I have been tuned by both Gruppe-S and EQ, the peaks were in the same area on both tunes.
Just look at some dyno graphs and you'll see that the torque curve and HP curve are very different.
</flame off>

Anyway, point being: peak power is not the same as peak HP.

I would still get an STi if I totaled my WRX.

Oh, trust me, I know that HP is a function of torque. The reason why I talk in HP, is because most people talk that way, so I relate it to them that way.

IIRC, HP is what... torque X (engine speed/5252)? That's why all dynos will intersect at 5252 RPM. You agree with my statement by saying "Honda motors are high reving, and the max torque and HP is up around 6-7K RPM which does suck." Which just proved my point on why I didn't like the S2000.

Let's just say I've been tuned by Renick Motorsports, Gruppe-S, and Vishnu, and I know how the dynos look. Useable power is what you want, and the S2000 doesn't deliver that since as soon as you hit it, oh crap, gotta shift.

Yes I have been tuned. Hell, Moike deemed my car untuneable. Go look @ edmunds.com it'll tell you the peak HP is @ 4000, and peak torque @ 6000. Why would you want peak torque @ 6000? So, when you shift at redline (usually drops ~ 1000 RPM) you're back into your peak power right away.

Here's my old dyno, please realize it is hard to read since torque & HP are on different scales. Note that my peak HP is around 4k and my peak torque is around 6k. It does not appear @ redline.
