There are two good buys at that price:

1. 2yr old Ford Tarus.
2. New Chrysler PT Cruiser.

Good Luck

A new Hyundai can be had for about that much, but that maybe out of the question. Get an s15 for 10K! She can go to drifting events...

She should just get a Civic SI, and it will end all of her problems.

And that would be about equal to the yearly maintenance bill?
I think he cares about his mother more than to put her in something that unreliable.

Oh yeah, it's reliable alright...

...reliably breaks down.

On the good side of things, I'd probably have to recommend a used Forester or maybe a new Ford Focus.

I'd second the used forester, there are getting to be quite a few of the first gen available and if they haven't been too badly abused, they will be a whole lot more reliable and practical than any used Audi or BMW- by a long shot.
