Reading this... and well just a couple things:
1) I've seen with my own two eyes some one get shot over twenty times with .40 cal to the chest and he kept coming.
2) be real about a couple things. Do you clean your weapon? People who carry not for work always have dirty weapons. Be honest with yourself. I don't care if you want to post on here how religiously you clean your weapon because you used to be a green beret/seal in your old days.
Glocks are the AK of the pistol world. Shoot dirty every time.
3)how often do you shoot there Rambo? Especially with ammo shortages and now the stupid ammo laws. Do you have time to train for two different trigger pulls on the same gun? Well look into the double action vs single action and then you'll know what I mean. The reason aside from stress that most people miss their first shot is they shoot that hard trigger pull 1/15 as many times so they are 15 times a worse shot.
4) get what fits your hand. For me personally no one on the planet makes a .32 acp frame gun that fits me. I hate them. Plus not much bigger to go 9mm in a compact. Ammo everywhere too.
So be careful on gun recommendations. Shoot what is confortable to you, and then also realize how you are and what gun fits that life.
I loved my .357 ultralight j frame for somethings and hated it for others. K frames were awesome unless you had to conceal, but most full size revolvers worth shooting suck concealed...
Anyways. Shoot lots of different ones, think about your maintenance and training allowances and go from there.

2)Any CCW who doesn't keep his/her weapon clean and functional shouldn't carry.
3)Most (again most not all) CCW holders shoot far more than LEO do. I myself go out 1-2 times a month and put 50-100 rounds down range to stay in practice with each of my firearms. I tend to only do 10-20 with the hunting rifles however, as they are not cheap to shoot.
4)I should let you shoot one of the 1903's, my hands and your hands the same. I do agree most "modern" .32acp suck, they make them far too small. I have the same issue with 9mm "sub compacts" and as I said so far only the Kahr fits my hand right.
I do agree with him on that last statement. You need to go out, shoot a ton of guns, find the one(s) that fit you. By that example the SIGs, great guns, but I have never found one that fits my hand right and feels proper in my grip. You just have to try them all out.

Good advice, although a lot of guns will fire dirty. Personally, I clean guns every time I shoot... like first thing when I get home.
What was the situation that you saw someone take 20+ .40 Cal rounds to the chest and continue attacking? I have a lot of trouble imagining a situation where that much trauma and blood loss would allow anyone to function.
I personally have seen a 10mm round deflected away by the bill of a baseball hat at less than 10 yards
My guns of choice are Springfield XD or EMP 1911 (for concealed carry). It's really hard to find a round with a better better track record than a .45 ACP. That Said, I'd rather have 10 9mms in a magazine than 7 .45ACP's
