Do you guys get freeway droning?
I have a hks catless dp and borla hush, and my car noticeably drones in 5th on the freeway. City driving is cool, but I know I will get annoyed from long roadtrips.
What measures can I take to reduce the noise?
I heard some ppl use sound deadening like dynamat and raamat in the rear cabin.. Has anyone here done that?

 

Throw another resonator on?

 

Back when I had my wagon, it droned pretty bad with pretty much every exhaust combo I had over the years minus stock (apexi gt,carbon ti,cobb,on and on..)

 

Borla Hush is already very quiet. Mine does not drone at all, but I do not have a wagon. Only wagons get that terrible drone. I would throw some sound deadening back there and it should help a lot.

 

Yah. Dyna Mat in the rear with the rear strut towers covered will take care of this!

i have the 3 " maddad dual tip whisper w/ catted dp and i dont get bad drone, there's something there, but as loud as our cars are, i dont really notice the noise, and this is driving 5 hrs down south.

 

I disagree on the Hush being a quiet exhaust. I <3 my EVO2

 

Yes EVO2s are quiet but the Hush is definitely quiet compared to the number of other exhausts out there.

 

try this... there's a recirculate vent in the rear corners under the cargo compartment... it's this plastic hole where air is pulled from... you can place a rag or mattress foam over this and it might reduce the drone you're getting (of course remember you're plugging a hole with somewhat of a purpose)

what is this vent used for anyways? so what would happen if i covered it completely?

 

the recirc function for your vehicles ventilation... but mine has been plugged up with rags for 2 years *shrug*

 

Wagon with TXS Stealthback and Prodrive muffler section. No droning at all.

 

I have a 2004 WRX wagon with an ERZ uppipe and a Stromung TBE. I have the "race pipe" third cat delete instead of a super long downpipe.
The car does drone on the highway when totally catless. for this reason I put the 3rd cat back on and it improved the droning significanty. now I can be on a conference call for work and not have to mute my line.

It helped. Didn't completely remove the noise but (for me) took it from a bit too annoying to entirely tolerable. I've since done the rest of the car (doors, floor, roof) with Raamat and Ensolite from Raamaudio. I'd suggest the Raamat and Ensolite combo as a much cheaper alternative to Dynamat/Dynapad with pretty similar performance, plus Rick at Raamaudio is very helpful and happy to discuss your options.
