If/When that happens i suggest you either enlist airforce reserve and get a easy desk job, close shop and move to South America or grab your ***** and grab an M4.

That's exacly what happened in Vietnam! Those that didn't want to get shot at enlisted for a "kick-back' job. Hell, my uncle did this back in the day too.
That's what my friend did initially but it turned out much differently. In the early '70s, my friend enlisted in the Navy at age 19 before his number came up. He went to Vietnam acting as an interpreter because he could speak the French language. For those of you to young to remember, Vietnam was a French colony or something like that and the French were at war with the Vietnamese long before the U.S. got involved. Because he worked closely with Naval intelligence it was only natural that he would be privy to some info regarding special ops. A while later he was told that they needed more people to volunteer for these missions and he did so. He received his training and went back to Vietnam this time as part of SEAL operations. He doesn't often talk about it because it wasn't fun and games. He lost good buddies. He has two long scars from enemy rounds that luckily just grazed him and a Purple Heart to show for it. After his tour was over he re-upped for a second tour "because they needed me".

I have the utmost respect for my friend not just because of his committment to his country, but also the decency he shows his fellow human beings. He harbors no resentment towards those in the Vietnam era who dodged the draft or got a legal deferment. It's been a long time since Vietnam and he's had time to reflect back on his military service. His folks were college-educated and if it wasn't for the War he would have gone on to college also. He could have gotten a college deferment in those days. Instead, he joined the military at the height of the conflict in Vietnam "partly out of patriotism, partly out of male posturing" - his words, not mine.

EDIT: I want to say that the last sentence in the paragraph above was my friend's opinion on why he volunteered for SEAL duty. In no way do I assume that those reasons have anything to do with why anyone else volunteers for Special Ops.

LOL

If you ever did get drafted you'd be one step ahead of the game in regard to haircuts. You'd save roughly $400 a year!

All men should do a 2 year stint upon completion of High School.

Jush MHO.

My father was a Vietnam Era Army draftee. I was raised to believe that Muhamad Ali, and Bill Clinton were the lowest of the low scum. A draft dodger is the biggest coward.

If your puss cakes are called upon, and you run, I would be the first to place a bullet in your skull, and have no remorse in doing so!
