UP and DP mods
Hello all,
I have decided on replacing the stock uppipe and downpipe with a catless model. I may be cheap but someone mentioned to buy oem pipes and gut them out. They said the hp gains are competitive and without the extra $. Asking for advice with the topic.
Also if I decide to go with a new downpipe what will be better, one with a wastgate diverter or a belmouth design?

Up-pipe
I am about to replace my OEM up-pipe with a gutted OEM up-pipe. If you decide to go this route, be very very careful. First of all the catalytic converter is a serious carcinogen, so wear a mask when gutting. You also have to be sure and get everything out or you could ruin your turbo down the road. I found someone that sells gutted up-pipes for $80. I am keeping my old one just in case.
I don't have first-hand knowledge about a gutting a downpipe, but I hear that it makes the ride loud.
Note: I am not using an OEM up-pipe to trick my dealer into not denying a warrarntly claim, but am doing it to trick the smog check tech when I eventually have to smog my car.

dont gut your uppipe.... there is a good chance you could damage your turbo... and its hella time consuming .... to be safe just buy a uppipe. as for the downpipe... the bellmouth works great ...
others may disagree .... but thats ok
