newbie question on up pipe and mods
I have a 2002 wrx wtock and I'm looking to mod it WITHOUT significantly changing my 5 year major component and 3 year bumper-to-bumper warranty.
Talked to several people and decided on an up-pipe, light-weight pulley and BOV. What BOV works best with WRx's (ie doesn not flutter)? Does the brand of up-pipe matter (hks vs generic)?
Any suggestions on what brand to get (ie hks or greddy, gfb)?
any idea on how much more hp this will add? BTW, have to wait on the MBC..they're pretty uptight on that!
thanks!

Sorry but HKS's uppipes are more generic then other brands. That thing looks like junk. But of course it functions jsut the same as better brands. If you want a good solidly designed uppipe look to PDE, gruppe-s, Vishnu, and more.
As for BOV's and a pulley, that will actually void your warranty. Both of those modifications are in subaru's little black book of mods to look out for. Well I take that back I know that a BOV is on there for sure, but I didn't get to look at the whole book for everything.
Your best mods for now would a K&N drop in filter, an uppipe, suspension upgrades, new tires, and a better braking system.
You should talk to your dealer and see if there are some do's and dont's for your car. Things that they dont mind being installed.

hey where do I get the "little black book" of no-no's for warranty purposes? I hear the only thing you can do without voiding the warranty is the CAI or K&N filters (somebody tells me that they give the same hp - huh?) and cat-back exhaust and the up/down pipes.
BTW, thx for the adivce on the uppipe. The BOV and the Perrin pulley was near top of my list...until now

The book I mentioned is what Subaru of America sent out to all dealerships. An average mortal probably cannot get a copy. I was only shown a copy as I was having my entire powertrain warranty voided due to my mods
Oh well, you have to pay to play.

You will hear a slight flutter sound from almost all bovs that are 100% atmo venting, IF you have your intake silencer out. If the silencer is in you will not hear it. The best bov for the wrx is probably Forge or a GFB hybrid. I have the GFB and it works just fine, able to set it for 100% or 50/50 set up. By the way, you wont be seeing any performance gains from a bov.
I also have a Turbo XS uppipe, with a mbc set at 14.5 psi. They both give a nice power gain together.
As for as warenty, ive taking my car to the dealership for oilchanges and what no with the uppipe and bov, they haven't had a problem with them. BUT i DEFINITLY take the mbc off when i go.
