Best Exhaust for the money?

Prodrive axleback or a Magnaflow muffler from any exhaust shop should give you a more aggressive sound as well as at least 5-10 hp and should easily be under $400. I'd skip the catbacks unless you plan on adding a downpipe later. Turbobacks (a catback and down/midpipe) are the best bet for performance and should get you easily 15-20 hp with no other mods. TurboXS makes a good one that's not too expensive. It really doesn't matter what you do first. Alot of people push the uppipe because it probably gives the biggest increase in power/responsiveness due to quicker spool-up of the turbo. I started with Godspeed uppipe, Samco hoses, Stromung downpipe, and later replaced the whole turboback with Vishnu's. Just got the Cobb ECU reflash. So far I'm happy with everything.

I would highly recommend the Borla Cat-Back. It might be a little loud, but it definitely has good horsepower gains. It has a nice low rumble from the boxer. It's a very non-rice system. I got it for $400 shipped from Rennick Subaru.

I love my HKS catback. My butt dyno noticed big gains, and if you opt for the non carbon-titanium system it's really not that much $$. Nice sound. Not to intrusive, and when cruising you can barely hear it inside the car.

The best bang for the buck is to have a local muffler shop build the turbo-back for you. You can do the whole tubo-back for less than $500 shipping and taxes included.

Cat-Back only replace the resonator and the muffler. Some downpipes only replace the cat in the downpipe, while others replace both the downpipe cat and the midpipe cat. Therefore, if you get a Cat-Back and a downpipe that only replaces the downpipe cat, you will still have the original midpipe cat. Your system will not truly be a turbo-back. Confusing huh? I would suggest a full Turbo-Back from someplace like TurboXS or a Cat-Back and a downpipe that replaces both the downpipe cat and the midpipe cat.

If you did then you should have seen I have a video/sound clip of a Vishnu Stage 2 WRX. This clip shows a dB meter inside and outside the car so you can get a judge on volume.

i came on here and asks the same thing about 6 months ago and i listened to what everyone said and now i have a Stromung, it looks almost stock, if you get the dual tip one. and it sounds great. all i have is the muffler with the connecting pipe. its not to loud....i drive a lot to binghamton from syracuse....its an hour and a half and it doesn't get annoying at all. its great though cause when you get the rpm's up it sounds great! not to mention it spudders and almost spits a little after you let off the gas. i have only gotten good compliments. i got mine for like 450 and mine stainless. they have whole exhausts too. check out there site www.stromung.com its not a very good site, but i love there muffler. they don't have pictures of there totally stainless steel ones i don't think. but call and look around the site you maybe find it. good luck

Thanks for the link to the video, hmmm i don't really think i like that exuast, but i like it because it doesn't get raspy. I wanna get something as cloes to a v8 sound as possible as i owned a chevy s-10 with a 350 small block, with heavy mods with true duals, and man did that thing sound mean!!!
I have heard the greddy gets it pretty close to that mean sound, anyone have any vids or just sound files of the greddy exuast.
But once again thanks for the websites guys, its helping me out greatly.

My exhaust was $500. Bought a Perrin catted DP, factory catback, and gutted uppipe. Best $500 I ever spent. Fast and quiet. Runs consistent 0-60 4.4 - 4.6sec, and 1/4 mile 13.5sec. Thats with MBC $79, pulley $100, Vishnu EMI $250. Not bad for less than $900 and it's really barely louder than stock. Thinking about stage 2 Cobb ecu but i like the fast spool up with the MBC.
