I heard that legacy gears and jdm v.5 sti (non RA) gears are good replacement options for our cars.

I was talking to a local transmission shop and was quoted 1400-1700 for everything parts/labor, with 2 year 36k warranty on both parts and labor...so idk might stick with the 5speed

That price is not for a complete rebuild.
Most likely they're only replacing 3rd/4th cluster gear, 3rd driven gear, and maybe a bearing or two.
You get what you pay for....

Not sure what mileage you have, but if the tranny is opened, don't forget syncros. And I have to admit, I'm with Paul@dbtuned. I really don't know the reputation of your transmission shop, but something sounds not complete.

I'd have Paul do your tranny. (lol) I've heard of him doing a lot of transmissions and is good at it.

It's all about jumping on a deal when you find it. I got an entire swap for $3400 off here and there was a Jdm 6mt swap on here not to long ago. I feel kind of silly pulling a working 5mt and putting the 6mt behind an unmodifyed 2.0 but **** it!

Yeah, ill see...I'm saving up, these things aren't cheap. I'm going to vegas later on this month and gamble maybe I can win something lol...Ebay has some good stuff! Jdm 6 speed with diff and axles for 3700, not bad! But comes from Canada so shipping is like 250-300 or more. Either way paul will most likely be hearing from me in the future, I've always wanted to go to Db tuned nows a good time

Definitely 6 speed, best tranny i've owned. It's pretty incredible how much power it can handle for a 2.5 liter car. Do the bimbo's too
