bell m2 is good and pyrotech makes a comparable to the bell....either one you go with will be about $300 shipped.
Go cheap on your track shoes, not your track helmet.

Go to a store and try them on. Your helmet should be a perfect fit, not just "good".
Spend two hours trying on every damn helmet in the place. Figure out what you like.
KBC makes good helmets that are inexpensive.

Keep in mind that most road race sanctioning won't allow any helmet that is NOT Snell SA rated (i.e. SA2000).
This specifically means that DOT motorcycle helmets (that don't also have the Snell rating, or are only "Snell M2000" rated) are NOT good enough.
If you have airbags in the car, I'd suggest an open-face helmet as your vision is better and they are a LOT cooler on a hot day. If the car is without airbags, then go closed-face.

I use a G-Force helmet which I got from http://www.soloracer.com/gforcehelmets.html They are basically knock-offs of Bell's.

I also have a GForce helmet, the GF750. I bought it from http://www.racerwholesale.com/ ...which has the same price as the soloracer link Egan just posted
Preston, check www.ompusa.com. They have free shipping, helmet bag, and cotton balaclava for free.

Dang, I just gave away 4 helmets. I never had a problem with NASA @ Sears, Laguna or T-Hill with any of my M helmets. Is this a new thing (like the last 3 months or so)?
