On the other hand, we really are only one major deployment away from "not enough troops". How else to explain the recent "stop-loss" policy, where a bunch of reservists don't get to come home as planned, or the decision to move troops from both S Korea and Europe.

So if, for example, the Chineese invaded Taiwan tomorrow... who are we going to send?
