On the bright side, chances are they will give out less "harassment" tickets.

ex: you may have been speeding but not racing and are given a ticket for racing.

They are not just going to whip out felonys left and right, unless of course you actually are envolved in a race.

That's still a tempting response to a cop when pulled over, "If we had been racing, it would have been no contest, I'd have been kicking his ***. I was just driving, he was racing to catch up to me." I don't think it would work all of the time though.

Basically it all boils down to this: don't race on the street. If you do, you get what's coming to you. You can't whine about it or call it unfair; break the law, face the music. Every time we speed down the freeway it's a risk. Every time we hook a corner to feel the pull, it's a risk. Street racing on city roads is one risk we should not be taking. Rarely do I play in the hills now days due to work, but I think it's better that way.

I just don't buy it. Legal things are probable cause that you do illegal stuff? BULL CRAPOLA!! If I own a gun does that mean I shoot people, I own several? Does going into a bank mean you're going to rob it, I went in one today? Does having a wad of money in your pocket mean you are a drug dealer, I just counted and I have $482 in my wallet(old habit, I like to keep a reasonable chunk of change with me)? I know, because I own a computer that must mean I download mp3 and appz and warez and all kinds of other goodness. ummm nevermind on that If I own a car does that mean I speed, I did exactly the speed limit the whole way home? Because I do drink, and I do own a car, does that mean I'll drink and drive, I took a cab home and left my car at a pub last friday and that was only after about 5 pints?

This is just another excuse to violate our rights. Saying that because they see something legal that is probable cause you are doing something illegal is a crock of crap. We need to stand up for our rights.

That's why I've only gotten a ticket for no front plate. I've no fear of police; they're doing their job, and I'm doing mine.

It's not that they abuse their power, it's that 99% of people don't know their's.

You make some very good points to be sure, but seriously - all it takes is one time on the receiving end to understand what some people here are saying. I am sure a lot of it is us citizens not knowing 100% of the law, but even that is abusing power - taking liberties.

this is another way for california to clean up the CA DEBT by over charging voilators in a simple violation, SPEED "RACING". F* all this crap that CA is trying to pull on their community. i'm gonna hire the next johny cokrin and get away with murder and put up the middle finger to the CA judicial systam and the corrupt muthaf*ers that enforce it. my next seatbelt voilation is gonna be $600 for me and i had to talk my way out of getting it.

just as the law can screw you over it can help get you out of bullsh*t. same way O.J. got away with murder.

sorry just venting from the insanity vest CA is putting on their people.

its all good though i know 3 spots that i could hit +170mph with nothing but your ride and the road and no room for a cop to chill and wait to bust me no cameras nothing!

I don't think there is any case of folks being convicted of engaging in a speed contest when *both* parties claimed they weren't.
We you racing?
No
Were you trying to beat that car?
What car?
Don't play stupid with me!
I'm sorry you think I'm being stupid. Is that a crime?
Do you have a stopwatch?
I'm not into sports, I'm a couch potato. Eggs always take longer to boil than 10 minutes..
Look we got you for racing, your car will be impounded, and you're going to jail, will lose your license and we'll tell your parents... So admit that guy was racing you and we'll see what we can do.
What guy? Are you trying to entrap me?? I was just driving home. Why are you harassing me??
haha tried this once.....

"Son, are you racing?"
"look at the front of my car officer. does it look like a racecar?"
"Have a good evening son"

i know street racing shouldn't be done, but there are instances where you just wanna go full throttle when you know that you are capable of a simple speed rush. but your're right.

this ALSO gives the local authorities the right to screw you over even though you wern't endangering anyone.

so you're saying its okay for the police to throw you in jail just because your car can go 40mph-70mph in a split second which is well within the legal speed limit on bay area freeways. i love it when cops follow fast lookin cars around while they are drooling over the idea of what they can pull you over for and file under the citation quota they made. i don't need the police to tell me what i can and can't do! i already know what is dangerous for me. CA law enforcement just want to pimp me and my wallet for being a CA citizen.

you are right on this law looking over the safety for CA streets but it also takes away the enjoyment of having a fast car for those that are responsible enough to own one. i don't see the AUTOBAHN in germany being BANNED when there is no speed limit for it and the citizens of germany complaining about it. they are more proud of their car performance heritage enough to have something like that there. all we have is an overpopulated state with a unpayable budget and now a law that will destroy the enjoyment of owning and using a high performance car..

You people who applaud this law are on the same intelligence level* as the street racers themselves.

Your going 75 MPH on the freeway, and you are next to a car going 75 MPH. You both pass a cop who is having a bad day for whatever reason. Guess what happens next?

Well said. People don't realize that it's not more laws to protect us from ourselves that we need, it's smarter people with the freedom to make the right decision. The more laws that are added with it being left to interpretation on the law enforcement side, the more problems we will have even when doing the "right" thing. When you can be picked out of a crowd and handed a citation for something you never even had the intent to do, it doesn't even matter that you can get it overturned - it's a serious problem that some people do not yet see the impact of. Making more laws with these seemingly purposeful grey areas is NOT the answer.,
