I know. Why people don't just go to the drag strip on wednesday nights is beyond me.

the problem is track days are so expensive. laguna seca is usually around $400 for 4 or 5 20 minute sessions. To most people free street racing > $400 per day.....

There need to be more INEXPENSIVE tracks.

And unless you live in the north bay, going to the Wednesday night drags is one hell of a drive for a handful of passes.

Some clubs give you track time in exchange for working. This makes you pretty busy but hey it's a lot cheaper. $400 for Laguna for one day is pretty high, although Laguna is probably the most expensive track.

Oh and joltdudeuc - people don't do the Wed night drags because drag racing sucks. FYI. But autox I can see, it's an excellent way to learn low-speed car control at a much better price than track days. Road courses rule all though of course.

Personally I feel a lot safer driving in a spirited fashion on a road course than on the street. On the track - everyone is usually going the same direction, paying attention, not eating or on the phone, and there are corner workers to look out for you as well. I completely do not understand street racing when defined as racing on a public road in traffic. Anything I ever did was out in the boonies on a deserted road, and even then this was after inspecting the road and having people watching for traffic.

Thumbs down Hogwash!

"Believe or not, this was based on the New released DVD: "Fast and Ferious-Tokyo Drift" That's crazy. "

You sound like all the cranky old men blaming 'A River Runs Through It' for "ruining" fly fishing!

Idiots are idiots in ANY sport. The movie did nothing, it's the moron's who believe the stunts (those same people think their underwear is full of little men dressed as fruit)! :rotfl:

It's pretty simple. They always close the 'gates' (downhill exits at the bottom). Stay ON the hill till dark... nap, hike... whatever. The closure usually last for an hour or two and they go home figuring you squirted out somewhere unseen.

The Ducati and I rolled out many a time in the twilight of Angles Crest, or the S.M. Mountains.

Now, if the heli gets involved. Pull over. Game over... till next Sunday!

Oh, and you aren't 'evading' if you don't know they are there...

The felony status will just make it easier to prosecute stupid people.
I don't think there is any case of folks being convicted of engaging in a speed contest when *both* parties claimed they weren't.
We you racing?
No
Were you trying to beat that car?
What car?
Don't play stupid with me!
I'm sorry you think I'm being stupid. Is that a crime?
Do you have a stopwatch?
I'm not into sports, I'm a couch potato. Eggs always take longer to boil than 10 minutes..
Look we got you for racing, your car will be impounded, and you're going to jail, will lose your license and we'll tell your parents... So admit that guy was racing you and we'll see what we can do.
What guy? Are you trying to entrap me?? I was just driving home. Why are you harassing me??

If only that works. I've had two friends who weren't even racing, maybe going 50mph in a 35. Both had lawyers, both had their cars impounded and fined. Funny part was they weren't even close to each other.

Ghey!!! how about smoking? what about talking on cell phones? Hell lets just make all speeding a felony, better yet, any car with over 50hp is now a felony. More accidental death are caused in a year from simple speeding that racing. How about smokes again?(and I smoke).

So I jump on the highway not paying attention to the car that is behind me trying to keep up. We both get pulled for "racing", both lose our cars, and both do jail time??????

This is just putting more power in a cops hands and will make things worse overall.

I had an unmarked cop pull me over a few weeks ago. I had the ****s something fierce and was in a hurry to get home, there was a tampon...errr civic next to me that was trying to keep up with me. I wasn't even 1/2 throttle(in fear of jolting myself and losing it) but I was in a hurry. I guess the civic was trying pretty hard to keep up. We both got pulled over. I'm dancing in my seat when the cop finally comes up and asks "So, why were you racing him?" WTF guilty before innocent. I was almost in tears I had to hit the head so bad so without thinking I blurted "if I was racing him I would have annihilated him, I have to crap so bad its not even funny and I'm one block from my house". He almost giggled and just said "oh, well, try to keep it down" again WTF, I never was going over the speed limit I just got up there a little quick.

Personally I'm getting sick of the cops worrying about BS like this. there are still FAR more death a year from DUI, FAR more deaths a year from shootings, but hassling someone for accelerating too quick while next to another car is now a felony? BS. Whose decision is it if it's exhibition of speed, speeding, or racing? a cop..nice.

instead of jumping on the gas, I'll just start shooting people that annoy me now. carries the same penalty for a first timer.
