STI BBS, vs 17"x9" DPT's?
Hello fellow i-clubbers, some may know of my bugeye that I recently sold.
I'm hoping to pick up an Aspen White Forester real soon, and was wanting to get your opinion. I've narrowed what wheels I want to pick up for it, either 17x7.5" 04 STI BBS takeoffs in silver with 225/50/17 possibly 225/55/17, or 17x9 Rota DPT's in flat black with 245/45/17's. These sized tires are reasonable to stock diameter while attaining a larger patch. Each have a different style and purpose that I will eventually make a decision on. (OEM size tire 215/55/17). They both clear BREMBOs, a must have. Both can be had for around the same price point for wheels and tires.
Here are two Aspen White Fozzy's that I photoshopped to get a fairly good idea of what they'll look like, along with other Fozzy's with the same wheels to give you other perspectives of them. So which do you like?

BBS in silver: What I like about the BBS' is that they are understated, yet have a simple clean sporty look, still fit's Brembos (future must have for me). With Outback sized tires, the ride will be cruiser, and my wheels will be harder to be beat by NorCal's potholed roads. They are harder to find a clean used set, and replacements would be just as difficult. Stock offset is ok a little sunken in though.
this will be the stance of the Foz I will have. Here's a chopped of what 225/55/17 would look like:
other BBS Fozzys (not my photos)

Rota DPT in flat black: These will look more aggresive, and with a 245/45/17 on a 17x9 I will still have good sidewall to absorb the roads yet it should give a little bite when I want to hit a corner. If I should be able to ever get a track day in (now that I have an infant we'll see) this set up will be less scary than on the BBS set up. It is more flashy (cop attractor), but somehow still palette-able to me in terms of being too blingy. DPT's I can get brand new, and a replacement should be easier to attain over the STI BBS's. Offset still within the 40's great stance yet very functional. Under 20 lbs per/wheel
17x9 DPT's +42 on Dunlop 245/45/17's

I have 17x9 dpts on my fozzy, I think they looks awesome haha. I will get some pics up when I get home later. I am on 245/45/17 conti dws. Do NOT go with a 245/40 the sidewall will be way to short and make the wheels look extremely tiny. They already have that problem depending on the color you get since the spokes don't make it all the way to the edge of the wheel. Black dpts seem to have this effect the least.

In hindsight, I wish I did not sell the gold BBS that came stock on my AW STi. As such, my vote is BBS. Have you considered a 5x100 -> 5x114.3 adaptor so you could run the newer, wider STi wheels? I know spacers aren't everyone's bag but a bolt-on, hubcentric spacer is less offensive to me - mechanically and otherwise. Also solves that high offset (+53 iirc) sunken wheel syndrome on your future FXT.
Also, jealous.

DPTs from the sound of your priorities. I run grids 17x9 +42 for summer with a 245/45 and stock BBS for winter. The extra meat of the bigger tires and the ease of replacement for rims sounds like better long term priorities now that baby is here (from fellow dad) and since you drive on these "lovely" roads.
Whatever you choose, just commit and don't regret!
