I mean seriously. How much effort does it take to figure that **** out. That's why you go on yahoo and it's filled full of B.S. about celebrities clothes and who dumped who.... distraction.

You should be questioning that more than this.

Bottom line... the man was a visionary and helped usher in a completely new form of technology... technologies. Did he invent, program, create them all. No. But he saw the benefit of putting them together. The ipod, iphone, itunes and the state of EVERY OS on the planet right now has a LOT to do with this man's ideas.

People are "on his nuts" just like they're "on the nuts" of every big name that dies. That's what people do.

But most of the people in this thread are fans of the products and the man.

You want to see how important he is go look at the stock prices for apple every time he leaves and comes back to the company over the years. Then watch what they do tomorrow.

ONE man.

There just aren't that many people like him on the planet. People willing to think outside of the box and actually go after their dreams and ideas. He will be a HUGE HUGE loss in the world of tech world wide. Not just in apple.

clear?
Indeed, a sensible answer. I guess I'm not too affected because I'm not star-struck by Jobs or enamored with Apple products (I've been rather indifferent towards Apple since the late '80s). Perhaps my surprise is rooted in the sheer number of peers who have expressed such apparent emotional distress over a man that seems very distant and unrelated, at least to me. The bandwagon-ism over his death I find remarkable, although upon second thought I suppose I can somewhat understand, although I certainly cannot emote in a likewise manner, I guess.

I never said I was pro-Windows. I hate Microsoft. But at least with open-standard products (I'm referring here to the IBM-PC standard model), consumers have choices. Competition exists and we benefit from it.

I don't know Steve Jobs personally. But just like everyone in this thread (and seemingly every talking head in the MSM and every goon lined up outside Worst Buy) I've formed my opinion from what I hear, see, and read. If POSV is accurate, Steve comes across as a real waste of oxygen. All the money in the world doesn't make up for treating people like $#@*, especially your own flesh and blood.

As for his great products, try using them without installing iTunes on your computer. No can do - Steve doesn't allow that.

Want to swap in a fresh battery into your iPhone or iPod? No can do - Steve doesn't allow that.

Want to root your iPhone? No can do - Steve doesn't allow that.

Want to sell your app or accessories to Apple consumers without going thru Apple's hoops and paying their fees? No can do - Steve doesn't allow that.

Want DRM-free music that you paid for? No can do - Steve doesn't allow that.

Want to xfer music from one computer to another using your iPod? No can do - Steve doesn't allow that.

Want to walk into an Apple store and get immediate help without an appointment? No can do - Steve doesn't allow that.

So why would ANYONE pay a premium to purchase something that is designed to prevent them from using the device as they see fit?

I have been listening to so many people praise Apple, Apple's stock, Steve Jobs, and his products for so long that if felt good to vent. I don't expect most to agree. In fact, I'm happy. The fact that I'm in the minority can be pretty reassuring.

People are reacting no different then when other unique figure heads pass away, especially at an early age. It's a pretty common reaction and shouldn't really be that intriguing to anyone.

Some people really admire what Jobs has accomplished over the last 30 years much more than others, but it's not like people are obsessing about it like Princess Diana or Michael Jackson.

I only regret that I purchased a single Apple product - an Ipod shortly after they were first released. It was a trap. Dumped it on CL as fast as I could and I won't ever go back.

Actually, some people are, which is why I don't get it.

Woz is a bad *** and from my experience a great all around dude. Jobs was better for the progression of the company and the product.

If you were content with your thoughts, you would have had zero need to post them here. Since you have basically zero experience with Apple products however, it makes logical sense that you would post these words. Not being sarcastic there; it seems the people that have the least first-hand experience with something speak the most authoritatively on the subject matter.

Now that's intriguing, but certainly nothing worthy of fretting about! The most I have gotten out of this is mild surprise based on the couple times I have talked to you in person. Not because I thought you liked Apple products, only because I did not think you were the type of person to post a pointless, ignorant rant. It seems that you only wanted to stir it up - which, using people's feelings as leverage, you have done well.

RIP Steve Jobs

I'm not an Apple fan boy but I do feel he accomplished a lot considering he started this business in his parents garage, was fired from apple, started a new company called NEXT, was brought back to apple after apple bought NEXT, bought the graphics department from Lucas Arts, gave us Pixar and then all the fashionable tech (ipod, iphone, ipad, itunes).

He's not Thomas Jeffereson or Martin Luther King but he does deserve the respect for what he accomplished in his life.

Friend of mine posted this 2 months ago on his facebook. I could give less of a **** but if true, its pretty weak of Apple and Steve Jobs. RIP anyway, whether you liked him or not, he was quite a visionary.

Ok, I've been reading all these articles about Steve Jobs and how his legacy won't be tarnished because as the head of one of the largest corporations he has notthat allowed apple to contributed or venture into any charitable ventures. I have read the quotes about his unwillingness to do it because it would have required time that he would have had to spend not focusing on apple. I have heard that his "innovations" Have done more to help charities than he could have done with donations and foundations. I have heard all the apologist make every excuse for why he is such a good person in his own way. Bottom line for me is... he failed to recognize the legitimacy of his own daughter for years. He stiff/lied to his friend/partner Steve Wozniak about the money they made off a contract for Atari ( essentially stealing a large % of what wozniack was due). He had no problem accepting the "donation" of a live saving liver from the organ donor program. Also although he claims to be a practicing Buddhist, he has used law enforcement to intrude and prosecute people who have found phonies that have been misplaced by his own people. The list goes on and on. I know the man is in bad shape but I don't think it's right to brand a man as a "good" person just because he made a lot of money and had a great mind for innovation. I may be in the minority on this but a man who makes a lot of money, etc... does not equal a great or good man. I know we live in the U.S. where capitalism is king but the idea, "that he with the most money is the greatest" is akin to royalty getting there station in life because it is ordained by god. I'm sure now that mr. Jobs is no longer head of apple the company will continue to do great and innovative things. I just hope that they deviate from there current mantra of "No charity" and maybe donate some money to, I don't know, the organ donor foundation? Until then, count me as a P.C. guy!
I didnt write it so I dont want to paragraph it. Anyway with you guys having the love/hate discussion here I figured its somewhat relevant.
